EJ,LERSLIE ACTIVITIES Training at Ellerslie this morning was restricted, the majority of horses being allotted useful pacing on the tan and sand track. Owing to recent rain the ground was cutting out slightly; nevertheless, several smart trials were registered.
The fastest sprint over three, furlongs was accomplished by Verdant. The son of Te Hero recorded 37 1 -5s and finished full of running. Verdant has got through a lot of useful pace work during the last few weeks, and lias hardened in condition a good deal.
The best trial over six furlongs was credited to Brief, which finished clear of Embassy at the end of their workout in 1.16 2-5. They ran the first three furlongs in 36 4-Ss. and Brief, which has improved noticeably of late, came home well. Corot was also sent six furlongs, which he left behind in 1.16 4-5, the last half mile taking 51.-4-5. Corot had something in reserve over the concluding stages. Billy Peach was running on strongly at the end of a similar task in 1.17 1-5. He ran the final half mile in 51 l-ss.
Tough Guy and Ross covered six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. They went fast, over the first three, which took 365, and consequently slowed up at the end. Going evenly throughout, Prince Revel traversed six iii 1.18. The son of Revelation is in tip-top racing condition, and should earn some money during the holiday meetings. Without being unduly bustled, British Talent came home from the six furlong post in 1.17 2-5. The easy going suited the chestnut gelding, and he worked with plenty of dash. Other gallops were:— » Three furlongs.—Miss Titartess and Good Fun. 38 2-ss; Bright Eagle, 3S 2-ss: Superb, 40s; Cowper (last three), 39 3-ss; Bronzo, 40 l-ss: Sir Dink (on tan), 41s. Four furlongs.—Miss Cambria beat Auto Lad. after getting best of start, in 50s; Chung Chong and Gaelic Salute, 52 l-ss; Sir Fox. 545. Six furlongs.—Victory Lass, 1.19 2-5; Commissar and Toastmaster, 1.19.
