13 JAP SHIPS SUNK Enemy Losses Estimated At 4000 N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 2.30. WASHINGTON, Nov. 29. An announcement from General Mac Arthur's Headquarters states that American fighter planes destroyed 13 ships, including eight transports, which were bound for Leyte Island, in th.e Philippines. The Japanese lost an estimated total of 4000 troops, who were killed or drowned. A later message states that the ships sunk included three destroyers. This is the sixth convoy in which enemy' ships have been destroyed while trying to relieve the Japanese garrison on Leyte Island.
