"NO EARLY ENDING TO EUROPEAN WAR"

(British Official Wireless.—Rec. 1 p.m.) RUGBY, November 29. The Prime Minister, Mr. Churchill, speaking on the Address-in-Reply to the King's Speech, said: "I must warn the House and country against indulging in the feeling that the war will soon be over. It may, but do not indulge in the feeling. The vast battle in progress in the west has yielded to us important gains. The large, effective break in the German front in the Cologne region will have the highest strategic consequence. "I took the occasion some months ago to damp down premature hopes by speaking of the German war running into January or February," Mr. Churchill added. "I followed this up quickly by indicating the late spring or early summer as periods which we must take into account as possibilities. If I were to make any change in the duration of unfolding events it would be to leave out the word 'early' before the word summer."
