ALLIED AIR ATTACKS Smashing Offensives Kept Up Over Germany British Official Wireless RCc. 2 p.m. RUGBY, Nov. 29. R.A.F. Bomber Command kept up the offensive against Germany for the third night in succession, when both Essen and Neuss were heavily attacked by forces of Lancasters and Halifaxes in the early hours of this morning. Thick cloud reached some two. miles high over both cities. Crews who bombed Neuss reported that the flares were very concentrated. Sky markers were laid continuously over Essen by the Pathfinders' Force, and crews reported that they were as concentrated at the end of the bombing as at the beginning. Neither at Essen nor at Neuss did the enemy put up much resistance. Some crews attacking Essen saw no fighters or flack. Others, however, reported seeing several night fighters. By the end of the attack on the Essen area, some four square miles of cloud was glowing from the fires below. An Air Ministry communique givf ing the main facts adds: "Strcng forces of Mosquitoes bombed Nuremberg, and night fighters and intruders supported the bombers and attacked airfields. Three of our aircraft are missing." It was later stated that one aircraft reported missing in Bomber Command operations landed safely away from its base. From the night s operations, therefore, two bombers, and not three, are missing. United States Ha/dquarters states that over 1000 Fortresses and Liberators attacked an oil refineiy at Misburg, the railway marshalling yards at Hamm, and other targets in north-west Germany, on Wednesday. The bombers were escorted by ovei 1000 Mustangs, Thunderbolts and Li Early n£ thiß afternoon Mosquitoes of R.A.F. Bcmbar Command attacked objectives in thj Duisbuig area.
