35TH ANNUAL MEETING
The problem of staff was still acute and would no doubt continue to be so until more people were released from the armed services, stated Miss A. A. Joyce, president of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Registered Nurses' Association, in her report, which was presented at the 35th annual meeting of the association held last night at the Nurses Club, Mountain Road. During the year Miss P. E. Lowe had been forced to retire through illhealth, but her place had been ably filled by Miss Laura Kingston. Miss H. Buckley had been appointed secretary. A sick visiting coram ltteee had been formed to take flowers, fruit and books to sick nurses on behalf of the association, Miss J. Kirkness, of the Public Hospital, being the convener. The meeting expressed its appreciation of the efforts of the executive in having the salary scale for nurses Attention was drawn to the excellent work being done by the nurses memorial fund, which quietly and efficiently looks arter the welfares of those who are unable through sick nesfto help themselves. Nurses contributing to the fund had the satisfaction of knowing that the money was well used to help fellow nursee. Annual reports were also presented by the Student Nurses Association of St. Helens hospital, the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, the Auckland Hospital and the Green Lane Student Nurses' Group, as well as by the Obstetric Group and the Public Health Group.
