SEQUEL TO FIRE
CLAIM FOR £4496 MADE HOUSE TREATED FOR BORER WANGANUI, Wednesday. A fire which destroyed a dwelling and its contents near Hunterville on March 24 is the subject of a claim for £4496 now"»being heard before Mr. Justice Finlay and a jury in the Supreme Court. It is alleged that when the fire occurred the hpuse was being treated for borer and other wood mites, and that the defendant company, Boracure (N.Z.), Ltd., was negligent with the use of liquid which was being sprayed on to the dwelling. The hearing began this afternoon, and when the Court adjourned the case for the plaintiff, John Graham Meads, farmer, of Hunterville, had been part heard. It is contended for the plaintiff that on March 24 the servants and workmen of the company were spraying the dwelling with a liquid mate- . rial of a highly inflammable nature when, through negligence, the house and its contents were burned. The dwelling was valued at "£1784, and the furniture, chattels and personal belongings at £2712. .. The defence is a denial of negligence on the part of the defendant company and its workmen. The value of the house and its contents is also questioned.
