INTERNATIONAL FUND
It Is anticipated that when the House meets towards the end of-this month there will be a debate on the proposals dealt with at the recent Brettdn Woods Conference. My personal opinion, as one who has sought some more details of the proposals beyond the rather meagre local Press reports, is that there is a great deal about which we have yet to hear from our representatives, but in the meantime, and with the object of clearing up a point which has developed during discussions, I would like to obtain some information on the following point: In the event of our sterling or dollar credits being insufficient to pay for the full volume of our imports it will be possible to borrow the credits externally from the Monetary Fund. In New Zealand, however, would our importers pay to the credit of the Monetary Fund at the Reserve Bank .the amount of the external loan in terms of New. Zealand currency (or credit), or would some other arrangement be made? INQUIRER-
