CRUISER GAMBIA
NO PUBLIC INSPECTION As stated yesterday, it is possible that the new cruiser Gambia may be thrown open to inspection by the public of Auckland. It is reliably stated, however, that should this be decided upon the privilege is not likely to be extended for some weeks.
When the warship was in Wellington last week-end the public were allowed aboard, and during the two days more than 20,000 people inspected the vessel.
A reception to officers of the Gambia will be given next Tuesday afternoon in the council chamber at the Town Hall, said the Mayor, Mr. Allum, this morning. There would be a luncheon for ratings on the cruiser when a convenient time could be arranged, he added. Most of the men were at present on leave.
