FOR WOMEN "GIRLS' TOWN"
OPPORTUNITIES GIVEN
FOR HAPPY AND NORMAL LIFE
Many social organisations are combining to help establish in Sydney a "Girls' Town" on the same lines as "Boys' Town" at Engadine.
"Girls' Town" is planned to care for girls from broken homes and those released from institutions. Mrs. Lucy Steele, of the Australian Women's Labour Council, and members of the Australian Labour party are behind the movement. Sister Godfrey has resigned from the Parramatta Girls' Industrial School to organise the foundation of "Girls' Town." Sister Godfrey, who is a member of the Australian Nurses' Federation, said that present institutions were only glorified gaols. She said "Girls' Town" would enable delinquent girls to be cared for, given every opportunity and all facilities for leading a happy, normal life, not bound by institution walls.
