NURSERY PLAY CENTRE
The advantages derived by both mother , and child from the establishment of nursery play centres wer.e emphasised by Mr. A. B. Thompson, M.A., lecturer in education at the Auckland University College, at a meeting of mothers from Remuera at the Tudor Theatre. A similar scheme started in Epsom was outlined by Mrs. P. P. Willis, the convener. She said that after canvassing for funds £300 was raised, and both a day nursery and a free kindergarten were established. When first opened the day nursery had a roll of 40 and there were now an additional 42 children's names on the waiting list. ■ It was decided by those present at the meeting that suitable premises be inspected immediately so that the nursery play-centre could be opened before Christmas. Twenty mothers enrolled and contributions amounted to £20 to start the funds were made. A canvas of householders is to be held to obtain equipment and money. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. A. C. Keys; secretary, Mrs. A. B. Thompson; treasurer, Mrs. W. Mac Donald Ford; committee, Mrs. Marie Griffin, Mrs. 0. Fyffe Lamb, Mrs. C. N. Bickridge and Mrs. A. McDougal.
