SEVENTH WIN IN OTAGO TABLE TENNIS SINGLES

R. A. Algie, the New Zealand table tennis champion, accomplished a notable performance at the Otago championships by winning titles in three separate events. He won the singles championship for the seventh time in the past eight years—he was serving overseas when the championships were held last year—and with L. Howe partnering him won the championship doubles for the fifth time. His previous successes in this event were achieved with his brother, A. R. Algie (now serving in Italy) as his partner on three i Decisions and G. Dowme on the, other Russell Algie, who is a member of the Aotea Club, was partnered bv Miss Joan Holt in winning the mixed doubles. . When he won the New Zealand singles title for the first time In 1939 he was only 18, She retained the title the following year, which was the last time it was contested. In 1939 and 1940 he and his brother won the Ivew Ze?land championship doubles.
