TREADING LIGHTLY IN FOOTPRINTS OF FAMOUS RELATIVE
THE easy way in which Traverse won both events for pacers at the recent meeting held by the Ashburton Racing Club made it plain that he has the ability to win his way to good class. In the Selma Handicap he started well, and with a mile covered was in the lead. From there on, he drew right away from his opponents, winning by a dozen lengths from Water Ranger. , In the Rakaia Handicap he took the lead before a furlong had been covered and never looked like being caught, finally winning by six lengths from Lucky Loyal. Traverse is a six-year-old chestnut gelding by Jack Potts from Regal Voyage, and is a half-brother to Haughty. He started : racing three years ago. He was unplaced in two starts in 1941-1942, and in the following season he - got a third in four attempts. Last season he improved to secure two seconds and one third in as many starts. i
