STRONG-RUNNING WING

A recruit to the North Shore League side who took the eye of spectators for his strong running and sound defence on Saturday was the right wing, Arthur Read. This was Read's first game of League, and he was impressive. He is well known on the East Coast and represented Poverty Bay at Rugby for a number of seasons, also playing in the Combined team that met the Springboks in 1937. He has been on service in the Pacific, and since his return has played for the Athletic Rugby Club in Wellington. In Gisborne he has the reputation of being a colourful light-heavy-weight wrestler, and met Frank Boric in Wellington recently. He is hoping to be matched in Auckland before the season ends.
