LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
ANNUAL MEETING MEMBERSHIP NEARLY 3000 The 19th annual meeting of the Auckland Provincial League of Mothers was held yesterday in the Knox Hall, Parnell, when over 150 delegates attended. The president, Mrs. W. C. Utting, presided.
The annual election resulted in the appointment of a new treasurer, Mrs. J. M. Elliffe, who succeeded Mrs. D. Silk, on the latter's retirement after six years' service, and two new members to the executive, Mesdames Keith Macky and W. R. Cashmore. All other officers were re-elected. Presentations were made to Mrs. Silk, and to Mrs. A. Wright who was retiring after serving as magazine secretary.
The president paid a tribute to the secretary, Mrs. Le Petit, and to members of the executive and provincial committee for their help in the past year. The secretary reported that the membership showed an increase of 232 new members, which brought the provincial membership up to nearly 3000. She asked for 'continued support of the war work and arranged for helpers for the packing of soldiers' parcels and various service clubs. Members assisted yesterday with the selling of Victory Bonds and one member reported that over .. £200 had been subscribed through the League of Mothers' workers. Special mention was made of the league's day at the Red Cross Shop, October 27. The president and secretary were appointed to represent the Auckland Province at the forthcoming Dominion Council meeting of the League of Mothers to be held in Wellington in November.
