CUSTOMS REVENUE
RECORD FOR SALES TAX Customs revenue collected at Auckland for the first nine months, of the present year, with the figures for the corresponding period of last year in parentheses, was as follows: Customs, £1,917,740 (£1,623,120); excise on beer, £340,677 (£293,876); sales tax, £1,005,633 (£887,079); war expenses account, £2,980,808 (£2,552,- ' 350). For the mpnth of September the revenue was as follows: Customs, £175,107 (£164,734); excise on beer, £31,544 (£29,896); sales tax, £124,827 (£110,396); war expenses account, £360,373 (£311,996). The collection of sales tax for this month constituted a record. The previous record was for December, 1943, when £122,222 was collected.
