EXCESSIVE ROOM RENTS

Mav I heartily endorse the Auckland Junior Chamber of Commerce's suggestion of a proper investigation of the existing conditions in many of our boarding houses? It is a terrible state of affairs when girls are forced to pay up to £2 10/ and even more for bed and breakfast in a room shared with others. It must be obvious to everyone that moral laxity is caused to a great extent by the inability of girls on fairly small wages to pay such pricey How can this "racket"—for it is nothing else—be stopped? There is a Fair Rents Act. Could not its scope be widened or another Act passed? Such organisations as the Junior Chamber of Commerce have enough power to see that conditions are improved. I hope it keeps un t" e good work. FAIT! GO.
