TAXATION ON WAGE-EARNER

Favouring further taxation relief for the family man and wage earner, the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to-day decided to send a remit to the approaching conference of the Associated Chambers, expressing the view that the national security tax of 1/6 in the £ should be removed as soon as possible with a view to reducing the cost of living and improving the economic position of wage earners. The suggestion is also to be made that by way of taxation relief for industry the Government consider the importance of assistance by way of taxation adjustment in the conversion of industry and commerce from wartime activities to peace time requirements by such means as additional allowances for depreciation of new buildings and equipment, the provision of which would contribute to the maintenance of a high level of employment..
