EMERGENCY REGULATIONS

"OVER SEVEN HUNDRED"

"I find there are over 700 regulations under the Emergency Regulations .Act, 1939, in New Zealand," said Mr. N. J. Lichtenstein, chairman, at to-day's meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce. "In England it has been intimated that the regulations will be removed as soon as the war ends, but we have had no such intimation from the New Zealand Government." It was decided to forward the following remit for the consideration of the Associated Chambers at the conference to be held in November:—"As all regulations and orders under the Emergency Regulations Act, 1939, are understood to be of a temporary nature and issued only for the purpose of assisting in the successful outcome "of the war, this conference urges the Government immediately to revoke each regulation or order as soon as it ceases to be necessary."
