BUS IN COLLISION
SEVEN IN HOSPITAL
SCHOOL CHILDREN AND MEN
(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. Seven children were admitted to the Kawakawa Hospital to-day as a result f a collision 1 .'tween a Kawakawa High School bus and a cream lorry, owned by the Bay of Islands Transport Co., Ltd. Several other children received treatment in the casualty department. Later two children were discharged from hospital to which two men were also admitted. The accident occurred this morning about three miles from the Pakaraka turn-off on the Kawakawa Road, when the bus was on its way to the high school. The children had been picked up from various points on the Oromahoe Road between Puketona and Pakaraka. Apparently the bonnets of the two vehicles passed each other, but the high body work of the truck and bus came in contact, the side of the truck being driven into the bus and causing injuries to a number of children. The vehicles, however, did not leave the road or capsize. The bus driver, Mr. Murray Tauri, of Kawakawa, was injured and taken to hospital, but the driver of the truck, Mr. Leach, .-scaped unhurt. A. passenger on the lorry, Mr. Henry Takimoana, was thrown to the road by the impact and was admitted to hospital in a serious condition. Another was not injured.
