PRISON FOR TWO MEN Charged with stealing a cardigan valued at £1 19/6 from an Upper Queen Street shop on September 4, Charles Archer Bryant (58), labourer and salesman, and Eric John Jones (43), labourer, appeared in the Police Court to-day before Messrs. C. E. Phillips and W. A. Simpson, J.P.'s. Bryant, alone, was further charged with assaulting James Arthur Williams, proprietor of the shop.

Mr.' Mi Robinson represented both accused. Jones pleaded guilty to theft, but Bryant pleaded not guilty to both charges brought against him.

After hearing fairly lengthy evidence, the Bench decided to convict Bryant on both charges. '

On the theft charge each accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, while for assault Bryant was ■ sentenced to one month's imprisonment, the term to be concurrent.
