NAVAL SUPPORT
ARMY IN SOUTH FRANCE
RUGBY, Sept 12.
Rec. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Sept 12. It is reported from Southern France that Allied warships have continued to give gunfire support on the right flank of the army m the Mentone area of the Riviera, states a Mediterranean naval communique. On September 8 the French cruiser Duguay Trouin fired more than 450 rounds at enemy batteries, pillboxes and troops, while the United States destroyer Hilary Peter Jones was m a-tion against machine-gun nests. The results were satisfactory.
