FOR FERNS

A sunny window is a bad place for maidenhair ferns, as they must not have direct sunlight, though plenty of ordinary light is necessary for them. Ferns which become rusty need a rest. Cut the tops off and give them enough water to prevent them becoming dry. Shade the plants from sunlight until fresh growth appears. Then remove them from the pots and shake away the old soil. Repot in fresh, loamy soil mixed with some fine leaf soil and a little sand.
