FRESH HORSES LIKELY
AWAI'I'M CONTINGENT
(Special) WANGANUI, Monday. It is reliably reported that several fresh Awapuni-trained horses are to race at wanganui on the second clay. Favoured by being slightly on the move when the tapes went up, Alright was ?i 10 , r, §, oal 'ly leaders in the Seafield Hack Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday, and he was in front going down the back. From there on the son of Inflation— Damans had the race in safe keeping, and drew away with his long strides to-win by a big margin from Martial Note. This was the winner's first race, and it is hard to say how good he is, but it looks as if Mr. L. G. Paul has got hold of 'another Amigo. Keite-he is a very hard puller, and this led to his mouth being cut by the bit In a gallop last week. The wound turned septic, and the Defoe gelding was consequently unable to fulfil his Wanganui engagements. Siglow jumped cleanly and did not run about in the hurdles on Saturday, but Greek Effort beat him handily, and promises to make good at the game. The Champ is improving in his jumping, and on Saturday he cleared some of the obstacles beautifully. He will probably make a name for himself. Behave won the Debutante Stakes for his Wanganui owner, Mr. J. Vesty, like a good colt, and although winners of this event have often done little or nothing later 011 this youngster promises to prove an exception. Pallas Athene, a tilly by Phaleron Bay— Mother Superior, shaped well in running second, while a colt that looks sure to win some races later on is Michael. He is a son of Broiefort—Grand Lady, owned by Mr. A. H. Hurley, and was a "late foal. Reorapa was backed as if unbeatable in the Maiden, and he won with something in hand from Ann Bank. The latter did not have the best of passages as she met with some interference at the turn and ran out wide at the bottom of the straight. The Bulandshar—Jane Seymour filly begins quickly, can go fast and is bred to stay. She is owned by Messrs. O'Neill Brothers, and is not without prospects in the Guineas. A filly foal by the English-bred sire Neptune from Gay Genet has made its appearance at Mr. J. G. Alexander's Cranleigh Stud. Additional foalings at the stud are a colt by Coronach—La Plato, a filly by Coronach out of Peerless, a filly by High Caste out. of the Australian mare Neon, and a colt by Broiefort—Merial.
