HOCKEY TOURNEY
FOUR NORTH ISLAND TEAMS Teams representing Wairarapa, Wanganui. Poverty Bay and Auckland will take part in the North Island women's hockey tournament, which commences at Melviile Park, Auckland, to-morrow. Each team will play three matches, with the final on Saturday. Miss P. H. Dawson has chosen the following players to represent Auckland: F. Attwood (Whangarei), J. Miller (Eden), J. Moffat (Eden), B. Bryan (Old Girls), M. Brooks (Technical), S. Hogben (University), P. Wain (Shore), M. Coldham (Old Girls), B. Bridget (Technical), L. Askew (Eden), M. White (Eden), J. Bailey (Old Girls), L. Housby (Training College), V. Robinson (Training College), L. Godfrey (Mount Eden). Whangarei will also be sending an intermediate representative team- down on Saturday to play Auckland intermediate representatives as a curtain-raiser to the final of the tourney. Miss Dawson has chosen the following team to represent Auckland: Misses J. Cruickshank, Sutherland, McKain, Leather, Timmins, Shove, Rolf-Smith, Gilman, Johnson, Price, Buchan, Anderson, Callighan. The first round of the knockout competition was commenced on Saturday last and the results were:— , Junior.—Mount Eden 9 (M. Smith 4, V. Fuller 3, L. Murphy 1, J. McDonald 1), beat Blue Rovers 1 (D. White): Training College 3 (D. Davidson 2, U. Rogers 1), beat Wesley 0. Intermediate. —W.A.A.F. so (D. Anderson 2, J. Adams 1), beat University A 1 (W. Penman); Training College 2 (J. Davies, K. Brydon); beat Wesley 1 (A. Clarke); University B defaulted to Technical Old Girls; Blue Rovers 3 (J. Gilman 3), drew with Takapuna 3 (K. Johnston 2, E. Simmonds 1 (extra time had to be played and J. Price scored the winning ( goal for Rovers). , , Senior.—Air Force defaulted to North Shore; Wesley 3 (E. Hooper 2, D. Buchan : 1) beat Technical Old Girls 1, M. Brooks ( scoring Teehnical's goal. Mount Eden continued its winning way, beating University 3—o in a game that was marked by good defence work on both side?. J. Miller and J. Moffat (2) scored Eden's goals. Training College went down to Old Girls by 3 goals to 1. From a skirmish on College's twenty-five B. Bryan secured and whipped through and sent in a high one, which left J. Ryburn no chance. In the second spell the same player . scored from a melee, to be followed by M Anderson after a forward rush. TrainI in'g College retaliated with an angle shot from V. Robinson after she had made a dazzling run.
