HUGE PRIZE-MONEY
AUCKLAND CLUB'S STAKES The committee of the Auckland Racing Club has budgeted for £41,950 in stake money for its spring, summer and midsummer meetings, and this represents an increase of £8850 on the amount given away over three corresponding fixtures last season. Even at this early stage chief interest is centred in the summer meeting at Christmas time, when the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap will be run, and the Cup on this occasion will be worth £5000, including a gold cup value £100, compared with £4250 last year, while the Railway Handicap cash has been raised from £1500 to £2000. Both races will be run on Boxing Day. The A.R.C. Handicap, run on the second day, vwill be £3000, and the Nathans Memorial Handicap (final day) £2000. The Great Northern Derby stake is £3000, Great Northern Foal Stakes £1500, and Royal Stakes £1000. There is no race on the programme under £600. The Mitchelson Cup, principal race at I the spring meeting, which is to be held on October 14, will be worth £1500, Great Northern Guineas £1000, and Welcome Stakes £1000. while the Flying Handicap, [run over a mile, will be valued at £1000.
