Mac Arthur's Air Forces Over Moluccas Area CELEBES TO CAROLINES Rec. 2 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. General Mac Arthur's air forces now range over the whole of the Moluccas area at will. "Through interrogation of enemy ground elements captured in New Guinea, it is now obvious that the Japanese Sixth Air Division has been practically annihilated in its attempted defence of Western New Guinea, declares to-day's South-west Pacific communique. "Heavy aerial assaults are reported on enemy bases from the Celebes to the Western Carolines. , ~ _ "At Manado, in the Celebes, 15 grounded Japanese aircraft were destroyed. Six enemy fighters, which were in the air, did not attack. "There was no Japanese fighter opposition over Palau, in the Western Carolines, where the enemy air base was hit with 90 tons of bombs."
