LOCAL BODY INQUIRY

NORTHLAND VISIT PLANNED (0.C.) WHANGAREI, Thursday. The Parliamentary Select Committee on local body government will visit Northland in November, sitting for one day at Kaikohe. Information to this effect has been received from Mr. S. W. Smith, M.P. for the Bay of Islands, who is a member of the committee. Previously the committee requested that two delegates from Northland should meet it in Wellington to discuss native rating and other pressing problems, but now it has decided to travel north itself, meeting representatives of county councils, town| boards, hospital boards, and the Farmers' Union. Northland local bodies are to hold a prior conference.
