GATE-TAKINGS UP
RUGBY FOOTBALL
POSTPONEMENT OF REP. GAME
As New Plymouth Boys' High School advised that its first fifteen would be travelling to Auckland on August 10 to play its annual match with Auckland Grammar, the Auckland Rugby Union's management committee decided last evening to postpone the match between the third grade and secondary schools' representative teams from that day until September, the probable date being September 16. The match between New Plymouth and Grammar will be played on Eden Park. The chairman, Mr. A. A. Baker, stated that gate takings this season already exceeded those of last year. The City Council, in reply to a request that playing areas in the city in use for military purposes should be returned to the sports bodies, pointed out that in many instances the areas had been taken by the Crown for the duration, and the council could not require them to be returned until then. The grounds would be converted to sporting use as soon as possible. The following team has been selected to represent Waikato at Matamata on Saturday against the Bay of Plenty:—Full-back, G. Ryan; three-quarters, J K McLean, D. S. Ensor, S. Collins: five-eighths, S Florence, F. B. Allen; half-back, L. T. Russell; forwards, E. A. Morrow, a. A. Smith, H. F. Praser, J. Forkert, A. K. Chell, E. B. Wairen, E. H. Catley; J. Leeson. Reserves: C. F. Reese, G. White, J. E. Llthgow. J. Taylor.
