GERMANS SURPRISED
BOMBERS SWITCHED TO RUHR Rec. 12.30 p.m. RUGBY, July 19. . Air Chief-Marshal Sir Arthur Harris took the enemy by surprise last night by switching some of his R.A.F.- Lancasters and Halifaxes from France to Germany. Although some of the crews reported seeing fighters, the German air defences were much weaker than was expected. Only 19 combats have been so far reported from the two forces of heavy bombers which attacked targets in the Ruhr.
