DECORATIONS CONFERRED
Rec. 11 a.m. ROME, June 30. The Pope has received General de Gaulle, head of the French Provisional Government, in a private audience. It is believed that they discussed the political principles underlying the Provisional Government's intentions in France. General de Gaulle earlier had talks with General Alexander and visited Franch troops on the Fifth Army front, where he conferred a number of decorations, including that of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour on General Juin, leader of the French troops fighting in Italy; and Commander of the Legion of Honour on General Mark Clark, commanding the Fifth Army. At a Press conference General de Gaulle said he believed the Germans were already beaten in Italy, and expressed the hope that Italy and France would soon reach an agreement and find a new basis for cooperation.
