PETROL LICENSES
I have read Avith interest the two letters in your columns signed "Forceps" and "Health First" re the petrol license question for dentists. The great difficulty in the control of petrol seems to be in the classification of essential users. Surely each individual claim must he considered on its own merits, and while some dentists have little claim on petrol there are some who undertake a considerable amount of surgical work, entailing frequent visits to hospitals, nursing homes private homes, etc., where sick and inyalid patients are unable to be shifted. Many of these cases are done under medical request and direction. Such dental surgeons are surely entitled, especially in these torrid days, to have their cars plus the necessary fuel at hand at all times to cope with all calls. It behoves the controlling authorities to publish a list of what they consider the essential users of petrol in order of priority and thus allow the public the opportunity of a glimpse into _ the mysteries of the unknown. It is to be hoped that by both reduction and cancellation of general unnecessary business licenses that the dental surgeon will at least benefit to the fullest possible extent and thereby be allowed to carry on his labours in the interests of public health.
