INVASION SEQUEL
PRISONERS' PARCELS
DELIVERY SUSPENDED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Postmaster - General, Mr. Webb, is advised by Mr. W. J. Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner in London, that on account of the interruption in railway communication in France, the sailing ot Red Cross ships from Lisbon to Marseilles has been suspended. Consequently there will be a delay m the delivery of next-of-kin parcels for prisoners of war in Germany. It is not known when the rail communication will be restored, thei efore it is not possible to say when parcels now in progress of transmission would reach the addressees. Next-of-kin might decide to defer sending parcels, but if they continued to post parcels these would + go forward from New Zealand at the first opportunity, said the Minister. The High Commissioner AvaS continuing to post cigarettes and educational book parcels pending the prospect of opening an alternative route to Switzerland. Letters to and from prisoners of war are not affected because they are conveyed between Lisbon ana Switzerland by air. It was possible, said the Minister, that the transmission of food parcels might also be affected, but it was known that fairly considerable stocks of fooa parcels had accumulated at Geneva and would meet the needs of prisoners for some time.
