COMBING OUT URGED

R.S.A. ON CATEGORY A MEN

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The following motion was carried amid applause at the Returned Services' Association Dominion Council Conference last night: "That this conference is very dissatisfied and concerned with the present manpower position regarding service. It finds that in spite of repeated promises of combing out of grade one category A men, there are still sufficient men in this class for an army division. The R.S.A. has always stood for equality of sacrifice as far as possible, but it considers that in the present manpower situation that is not even attempted. "The R.S.A. considers that every endeavour should be made to see that all category A men take their place in the Services. Definite time limits should be given to I men in this category, and to em- ! ployers, including Government Departments, stating when a man will be called and the time the employer will have to replace him. Both will thus know their position The Dominion council realises the increasing production, housing and essential industries position, but nevertheless, it urges the Government to so enforce, or amend the I manpower and Services regulations as to ensure that every category A • man serves overseas and tnat I equality of sacrifice is achieved.
