FREE MEDICAL SERVICE
AUSTRALIAN HEALTH SCHEME Rec. 1 p.m. CANBERRA, this day. "Free medical service to the Australian people must be achieved," said the Minister of Health. Senator Fraser, addressing a conference between the Government Medical Health Council and the medical profession. The object of the conference is to modify the opposition of the B.M.A. to the Government's pian for free health services. The main objection of the B.M.A. is to a salaried medical service for the whole of Australia. It claims that the present system is satisfactory and that the suggested plan would destroj' the close personal relationship between doctor and patient. The Government's plan includes free consultant and specialist services, free hospitalisation and free clinics.
