HENGYANG IN FLAMES
| American Air Force Abandons Airfield RAIDS ON ENEMY CONTINUE Rec. 10.30. CHUNGKING. June 29. The United States 14th Air Force' | has abandoned its airfield at Hengyang, says General Stilwell's communique. The Americans have dropped 10001b bombs on the field to render it useless to the enemy. Hengyang is in flames. The communique adds that the j American Air Force, supporting Chinese ground forces, attacked Chuchow. Siangsiang and a nearby Japanese artillery concentration. American planes also destroyed military installations and enemy strongholds at An.ien, Yunsien and Pingslang. Large fires were started at Kweiyi. near Lake Tuncting, and also at' Hokiakiao, north-east of ■ Hengyang.
