URGENCY STRESSED
DOMINION'S POPULATION GOVERNMENT ACTION URGED (0.C.) HAMILTON, this day. After hearing an address by Mr. R. S. Allwright, of Wellington, organising secretary of the Dominion Settlement Association, a public meeting in Hamilton last night adopted the following resolutions on the motion of Mrs. H. C. Ross and Mr. S. N. Ziman: "That this meeting views with the utmost alarm the serious state of the Dominion's population, and urges the Government immediately to set up a committee to enable investigation and planning of this vital question to proceed at once. It also urges that the Dominion institutes inquiries and plans for the absorption into New Zealand of orphan children from Britain and Europe. In the opinion of this meeting this matter, which involves the very life of the Dominion, should be given extreme urgency by the Government." The meeting set up a large committee, to interest itself in the population question and to consider the formation of a branch of the Dominion Settlement Association.
