WAGES TAX: Employers who engage labour, whether permanent or casual, and whether On a time, piece-work, or contract basis, are required to deduct wages tax from the payments for wen labour, at the rate of one penny in every eight pence or part thereof (2/6 in £), and to account; therefor within three days of deduction, either by means of wages tax stamps affixed and cancelled in a wages book, or by payment to any Post Office. Severe penalties are provided for non-compliance with the requirements. SOCIAL SECURITY REGISTRATION PEE: A quarterly instalment (5/) is payable on Ist AUGUST by male persons aged 20 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand, who are not exempt. Exemption details and forms may be obtained at Money-order Offices. Every person entitled to exemption (including those receiving Age Benefits under the Social Security Act but no other Income) must complete the exemption application form and present it with his coupon book at a Money-order Office within seven days after the last day for payment of the instalment, otherwise payment may be demanded. The Surname (in block letters), full Christian names, full residential address and name and address of employer (if any), must be entered on the relative coupon before pa:<ment of any Instalment. An employer, employing for more than seven days a person unregistered or in arrear with the Registration Fee is liable on summary conviction « 0 £2 0. All persons ordinarily resident in New Zealand must register under the Social Security Act within one month of attaining the age of sixteen and obtain a coupon book. Pursuant to the powers conferred on him by the 011 Fuel Emergency Regulation. 1939, the Oil tuel Controller does hereby direct that no motor spirit shall be sold or delivered under the authority of any coupon issued pursuant to the said regulations, unless the purchaser of the motor spirit endorses on the back of the said coupon his signature, and the registration plate number of the motor vehicle to the tank or which the motor spirit is supplied by the seller.
