DECISION OF RETAILERS
It was recommended at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland Provincial Retailers' Association yesterday that, consequent upon the lifting of the restrictions imposed under the Closing of Shops (late night) Emergency Regulations, the hours provided for in the award should be observed meanwhile. The effect of the recommendation is that, commencing from July 7 Qhops will observe the following hours: Monday to Thursday (inclusive), 5.50 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.; Friday, 5.50 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 8.50 a.m. to 12 noon. A statement issued by the association this morning said that during the past week inquiries had been made among drapers, furnishers, shoe-retailers and mercers regai ding the proposed hours, and a small section had expressed a feeling in favour of the retention of the present "However, the feeling _of the executive was that Friday night was the one time in the week when a husband and wife could shop together" continued the statement. '■'Therefore there was a responsibility imposed on the traders to afford the consuming public such facilities. 4. decision that stores in the city and suburbs should remain open until 9 p.m. as from Friday, July 7, has been made by the Auckland Master Grocers' Association. _ "In view of the anticipated demands of the people it is naturally assumed that grocers advantage of the late chopping night" said the secretary of the Auckland Master Grocers' AssociaR.
