OPHIR REES' LATEST REVUE
Sparkling humour and variety marked the performance of Ophir Rees' Revile, "Topsy Turvy," on Saturday. The show was well received by packed houses at His Majesty's Theatre. Seven humorous sketches were interspersed evenly throughout the performance, setting off well such items as ballet-dances, song hits, acrobatic features and various specially items. An extremely attractive and popular feature was a ballet, a "Tribute to Strauss," performed to the accompaniment of "Tales of the Vienna Woods. The ballet was under the direction of Miss Irene Long and had been supervised by Mrs. NettletonEdwards. Feats of strength and balancing were displayed by the Titanic Four, and a tumbling exhibition was given by the Three Marvels. Jack Riley was a most capable and popular comedian and was assisted by Roy Newton and Miss Sylvia Poynter, Horrie and Renee Loach were most popular comedians. A sketch, "Lead Me to the Altar, Walter," by Renee Loach, produced a riot of laughter. Clever impersonations of well-known stars of radio and screen were given by Miss Joy Asquith. Miss Poynter and Ophir Rees were much appreciated in two songs, both written by New Zealand composers, one being "Fingers Crossed for You, a composition of M o ira Nol a 11^ land, and the other, Hullo, Mum, by Elwyn May Keatinge, of Morrinsville. Miss Adele Taylor, Miss Kathleen Farrell and Sherry were warmly applauded in nnnnlar songs while violin solos by Max Roland formerly solo violinist for the Kiwi Concert Party, were another appea - inc feature of the fine bill of fare. The revue will run for a fortnights season.
