FIRE HAZARDS
POWER TO REMOVE SOUGHT
The question of the powers of the superintendent in having fire hazards removed was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board this morning. Members stated that fires were detrimental to the war effort, and that the board was asked to keep fires down, but the superintendent had little or no power to take reasonable action to have fire hazards removed.
A resolution was carried requesting contributing local bodies to amend their by-laws to give the superintendent authority to deal with fire hazards, and asking the City Council to urge the Standards Institute to expedite by-laws relatisg to fire escapes.
