ARMOURED PUNCH

LATEST BRITISH CAR

SIX-POUNDER ANTI-TANK GUN

LONDON

Details of the biggest and most powerful British armoured car that has yet seen service on any battlefront have now been released. It is the A.E.C. Armoured Car Mark 11., and it carries the punch of a tank in the form of the now famous sixpounder anti-tank gun.

Powered with a Diesel oil engine of proved reliability in operations, which develops 153 b.h.p. at 2000

revolutions a minute, the A.E.C. has a maximum road speed of 42 miles an hour. Across country it can reach 18 miles an hour. In addition to the six-pounder gun in the turret —which is electrically driven and rotates through a full circle—there is a 7.92 mm Besa machine-gun mounted coaxially with the six-pounder, and a light A.A. machine-gun on top of the turret.

The armour is 11 in thick on the front and lin at the sides. The total loaded weight of the car is 12 tons 12cwt. A standard wireless set is carried. The tyres are of very large section and have the now familiar "run-flat" principle, which enables the car to keep going even after a puncture or a burst. The crew of the car consists of the commander, driver, gunlayer and loader, the latter acting as wireless operator as occasion demands.

The car is made in British factories working for the Ministry of Supply.
