LAND SALES ACT
AMENDMENT NECESSARY
BASIS OP VALUATIONS
"If it does away with land speculation or undue aggregation of land it is good " said Mr. A. Sheffield, speaking at the Auckland Farmers' Union conference yesterday afternoon on the Land Sales Act. He considered that there was a tendency to interfere too much with the rights of the individual. While Mr. Sheffield considered that Government Departments might have some means of determining the productive value of land, other speakers criticised the use of the productive value as a basis of valuation under the Act. The provincial secretary, Mr. A. E. Robinson, contended that the Act was basically wrong. Mr A C. A. Sexton said that the way in which the productive value was assessed appeared to be designed more to check sales than to stabilise prices. . A resolution was carried that the Government be asked to amend the I .and Sales Act so that economic justice might be done to the farming community.
