U.S.A. AND VICHY

MR. HULL'S DECLARATION FIGHTING FRENCH ATTITUDE 9 (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. The delegate in New Zealand of the French Committee of National Liberation has received the following communique from the French Official Bureau of Information in Algiers: — "Following Mr. Cordell Hull's declaration stating that, the United States Government would not deal directly or indirectly with the Vichy Government, various Allied newspapers have declared that the statement was a denial of the views expressed by French official circles in Algiers. The French Commissioner of Information states that no responsible persons in Algiers had assumed that the United States intended to deal with Vichy, nor did they doubt the assurance given by the United States Government to the French Committee of National Liberation last January on the subject. Mr. Cordell Hull's declaration had been widely published by the Press in Algiers, and diffused to France over the wireless."
