REHABILITATION

What is the matter wth the people of this country? Why _do _ they tolerate the present position in regard to rehabilitation? The Hoyse of Representatives passes a resolution praising the soldier for his gooa works. The Government of the oay is busy persuading the people what wonderful schemes it has in store for returned servicemen. Are tne people being completely hookvvinkea by laudatory statements, occasional •resolutions, and a continuous spate of words about what the Government intends doing for returned men? Are the people aware of the true position regarding this matter? Rehabilitation. committees are playing tn e ' r part with sympathy and understanding in recommending men for Mancial assistance, but their work is nullified by the State Advances Department. So much so, that tne growing host who have unsuccessfully endeavoured to obtain a loan from the State Advances Department are forced to the conclusion that tms has embarked upon a policy of deliberate discouragement m s the matter of granting loans to returned servicemen. This conclusion is supported by the similarity in iorm of letters intimating refusal of ap]?n| cations, emanating from the state Advances Department These disheartening replies have the effect 01 embittering their frustrated recipients. The plain fact , erner £ ing, is that the State Advances Department is concerned purely monetary considerations ana not with rehabilitation. DEEDS, NOT WORDS.
