DECISION OVERRIDDEN
MEDICAL REPORT ON GIRL
BOARD NOT GIVEN FULL FACTS (PA.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A medical board decision was overridden by the Industrial Manpower Committee to-day when an appeal by Shirley Margaret Crawshaw against her direction as a machinist in a clothing factory was heard.
The medical report stated that she was fit for fulltime employment.
"We think we would be doing her an injury by forcing her into an industry which her own doctor does not advise," said the chairman, Mr. K. G. Archer. He added that on the medical board certificate the proposed employment for the girl had not been filled in, and yet the board had stated that she was fit for her proposed employment, without knowing what it was.
In allowing the appeal the chairman said he did not wish the decision to be construed as a reflection on the medical board, but the board had not been supplied with full details, and was not expected to inquire into other matters which had now been raised.
