LEIPZIG HAS ALMOST CEASED TO EXIST
GREAT R.A.F. RAIDS
26,000 Killed In One Night's
Attack
N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 1 p.m. LONDON, Mar. 14. Leipzig has aimpst ceased to exist. Scarcely a building remains intact and 26,000 persons were killed in the R.A.F.'s night attack on Leipzig on February 20, said a Swiss national, who has arrived in Berne from Germany. The death roll, he added, was high because the first wave of planes dropped only firebombs, and the all-clear sounded. Then a second wave dropped high explosives. Halifax bombers last night made a heavy attack on railway targets at Le Mans, 120 miles west of Paris, states an Air Ministry communique. Mosquitoes attacked Frankfurt and other objectives in Western Germany. Mines were also laid in enemy waters. Two of our planes are missing. Thunderbolts carried out offensive sweeps over two sections of the northern coast of France this morning. No enemy planes met the American challenge.
