Candidates' Views Addresses by a number of candidates were given at a public meeting held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber yesterday afternoon. In introducing the candidates the Rev. \V. R. Milne, of St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, said they were offering their services to the citizens of Auckland to ensure stricter enforcement of the liquor laws. Other candidates who spoke were the Rev. E. T. Olds, of the Pitt Street Methodist Church, the Rev. D. N. Pryor, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the Rev. A. E. Waite, of St. John's Methodist Church, and Major C. G. Lee, of the Salvation Army. Mr. Olds said they were not advocating prohibition. Although there might be some who hoped that the time would come when the liquor trade would be abolished, the majority of the people had decided it was to stay. It was up to them to see it was correctly run. They had a chance to put on the committee men who had no personal interest in the trade, and who would fearlessly see that the law was obeyed.
