MEAT COUPONS
Upon applying at the Orakei Post Office to-day (Thursday) for my meat ration coupons, I was informed that the supply was exhausted, that no more would be received, and that therefore I, along with many hundreds of others, would have to go into town to the Chief Post Office for these coupons. This has happened before at the Orakei Post Office, and I would be pleased if the authorities would inform me why:— (1) More forms could not have been supplied' (2) could not a further supply have been sent to a post office only three miles distant; t3) will this be the usual practice, as it has occurred with the issue of ration books, and now with the issue oi meat coupons. It is most inconvenient to myself, and many other women, with small children, and husbands in the forces, to have to travel to the city and join the queues at the main post office. Surely by now an estimate of the populatioa and forms required must be available. INEFFICIENCY. [One of the senior officers at the Chief Post Office explained that the supply at Orakei ran out on Thursday, and it was regretted that a relief supply did not reach there in time. A huge amount of work was involved. There had been no other complaints received. At very short notice a heavy burden had been placed on the Department, and extra staff had to be obtained from other Departments to cope with the work. —Ed.]
