HIS NEW BRITAIN
WHAT CRIPPS WANTS
EMPLOYMENT FOR ALL
LONDON. Sir Stafford Cripps, Minister of Aircraft Production, gave his East Bristol constituents his views on the new Britain after the war.
"No principles of capitalism or Socialism or any other "ism" must interfere with the complete liberty of the Government in makinpr certain that there is full employment," he said. "That is the cardinal point.
"We must recognise and assess the needs of peace .just as to-day we do the needs of war.
"We must continue to think out and plan our effort m terms of our real resources.
"We must maintain the idea of the national and international planning of resources which had been one of the major successes in our war economy.
"We must be prepared to deal in the priorities of peace as we had dealt in priorities in war.
"If the State is to be able to make the resources of the country available for providing full employment, it must be able to control the finances of the country, not necessarily in detail but in bioad principle.
"Monopolies in vital industries must be run as public undertakings by the Government th "ugh appropriate organisations."
