MAYOR OF NEWMARKET
Until the municipal elections in May, Mr. R. E. Newport is to act as Mayor of Newmarket in succession to the la>te Mr. S. Donaldson. Mr. Newport was elected at a special meeting of the borough council last night, and afterwards stated that he would not be a candidate either for the mayoralty or the council in May. He has been on the council for 15 years, and has been deputy-Mayor for 10. He is president of the Newmarket Swimming Club and chairman of the Auckland Primary Schools' Rugby League Management Committee. The new deputy-Mayor is Mr. C. H. K. Mountain.
